If you are male and called Mortimer, and interested in the origins of the family, would you consider doing a Y-chromosome DNA test to see how you link to the whole gamut of Mortimers? As yet very few Mortimers and Mortimores have done this - but I'd love to see how the DNA of those of Devon extraction link up (or not). I note that my DNA differs significantly from two other families of Devon extraction. As I have no legitimate male-line male cousins (only males have the y-chromosome) for the last two centuries, it would be very interesting to find someone else called Mortimer or Mortimore with the same Y-DNA markers as my family. For the results of the Mortimers who have had themselves tested so far, see the Family Tree DNA Mortimer surname project
